Streszczenie

The poly-lobed earthenware tray found outside the northern wall of the Red Brick Piers Church in Selib has some parallels among the Late Christian ceramics discovered in the church context in the Middle Nile. Apart from the scalloped design all these object share a common feature – a central depression. The possible use of these trays in the Communion to the laity administered under two kinds by intinction is suggested by the author and promoted on the basis of the literary sources and archaeological evidence. The possible place where the Selib tray could be accommodated within the church building makes an important argument in the discussion on the ritual in which these objects could have been used.
